The destruction left by Hurricane Florence continues to unfold on the nightly news, but it is already clear the magnitude of the destruction of property and levels of flooding in the Carolinas will be historic.
In response to Hurricane Florence, and in anticipation of any future natural disasters that may occur this year during the traditional storm season, the USCCB has requested that all dioceses in the U.S. hold a “2018 Disasters Emergency Collection.” The funds collected from this special appeal will be used to support the efforts of Catholic Charities USA and/or Catholic Relief Services, the official relief agencies of the US Catholic Church, as they and their local agencies respond to immediate emergency needs for such necessities as water, food, shelter and medical care and aid in long-term rebuilding and recovery efforts. Funds will also be used to provide pastoral and rebuilding support to impacted dioceses through the USCCB.
Due to the urgency of the situation, Bishop Bradley has requested that Parishes participate in this collection. Our collection will be the weekend of October 7th.
